"Tee it up for the heroes"
HOUSTON: The First Annual Association of the U. S. Army, Houston Metroplex Chapter "Tee It Up For The Heroes" golf Tournament. Willie Johnson, the event Coordinator, gave the "Go Ahead" starting a wave of electric carts which raced out past the Honor Guard. The Shot Gun start initiated a fast round of 18 holes. Wildcat Golf Club provided the course with a beautiful view of downtown Houston at the start of the back nine.
Bellaire High School's JR ROTC unit provided the Honor Guard during the opening Ceremony. With the colors presented, golfers standing by their carts loaded with clubs, Willie Johnston declared this inaugural tournament "open."
What amazing sunshine!
Newly elected club president Liza Garza and Joe Mata, co-Chairmen of the golf tournament, were on hand to sign up golfers alongside several volunteers and chapter executive committee members. The tournament started with lunch then leisurely advanced to the putting green for a high spirited if not competitive putting contest.

The weather was perfect with the right mix of sunshine and clouds. Everyone had a great time. The last teams returned to the club house just as the sunset. As the nine team scores were reported, dinner was served. Throughout the day, several items were available in the club house as part of a silent auction. After dinner Joe Mata read of the winners of several trophies, certificates and auction winners. As one of the golfers said "until next time." Planning for the next tournament is underway, we'll keep you posted. Insert Final Photo or Two
